If you've only got a weekend, Lake Worth Beach might be the most South Florida town you can pack into 48 hours. It's the one that locals call "L-Dub," where colorful downtown murals sit two blocks from a Caribbean-blue beach, where the corner bar has live music on a Tuesday, and where a hundred-year-old bungalow can sit right next to a brand-new build without either one looking out of place.
I live and work in this pocket of Palm Beach County, and I'm asked constantly by relocating buyers, part-time homeowners, and even guests of our vacation rentals: "What should I actually do while I'm here?" This is the itinerary I hand them. Before You Go: Quick Orientation
Downtown Lake Worth Beach centers on Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, running roughly between Dixie Highway and the Intracoastal Waterway. It's one of the most walkable downtowns in Palm Beach County, so once you're parked, you genuinely don't need a car for most of this itinerary. The beach itself sits at the east end of Lake Avenue, past the bridge, with its own small commercial strip around the historic casino building.

Day 1: Friday Evening — Ease Into It
6:00 PM — Check in and take a first walk down Lake Avenue
Drop your bags and head straight downtown before dinner. Lake Avenue is lined with independent shops, art galleries, and restaurants housed in restored early-1900s buildings — this is the "Art of Florida Living" the town is known for, and a slow first walk is the best way to get your bearings.
7:00 PM — Dinner at Paradiso Ristorante or Lilo's Streetfood & Bar
For a more refined first night, Paradiso Ristorante is a longtime downtown favorite for Italian cuisine, with a wine list that runs deep. If you'd rather keep things casual, Lilo's Streetfood & Bar mixes seafood with street-style tacos in a livelier, more come-as-you-are setting. Both are an easy walk from most of downtown.
8:30 PM — A nightcap at Mathews Brewing Co.
Lake Worth Beach's first craft brewery is tucked on a quiet side street downtown, with a laid-back taproom and beer garden that's become a local institution. It's a good low-key way to close out night one before an early beach morning.
Day 2: Saturday — The Full Lake Worth Beach Experience
8:00 AM — Coffee and a walk through the historic district
Start slow with coffee from one of the independent coffee houses scattered through downtown, then take a morning walk through the surrounding historic residential streets. This is one of the best ways to get a feel for the town's character before it gets busy — more than a thousand vintage buildings sit within city limits, and the architecture alone is worth the detour.
If the historic housing stock catches your eye, it's worth knowing this charm isn't limited to downtown. Neighborhoods like Mango Groves and Parrot Cove carry that same historic, walkable feel and are two of my favorite pockets of the city to show buyers.
9:30 AM — Lake Worth Beach and the pier
Head to the beach itself, past the bridge at the east end of Lake Avenue. The water here has that clear, Caribbean-blue quality that's rarer to find the farther south you go in Broward and Miami-Dade, and the nearly 1,000-foot pier is worth the walk out for the view alone. Mornings are the best time to claim a good spot before the day crowd arrives.
12:00 PM — Lunch at Benny's on the Beach
Right on the sand near the casino building, Benny's on the Beach is the quintessential Lake Worth Beach lunch spot — waterfront tables, a menu that leans into fresh seafood and classic Florida beach food, and one of the better afternoon cocktail scenes in town. Expect it to be busy on a Saturday; that's part of the charm.
2:00 PM — Snook Islands Natural Area
A short drive or bike ride north of downtown, the Snook Islands Natural Area is a 118-acre restored wetland along the Intracoastal, accessible by boardwalk or kayak. It's an easy way to spend an hour spotting birds, sea turtles, and the occasional manatee, and it's a nice contrast to the beach-and-downtown pace of the rest of the day. Kayak rentals are available nearby if you want to get out on the water directly.
4:30 PM — Gallery time at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County
Back downtown, the Cultural Council anchors Lake Worth Beach's identity as the artsiest of the Palm Beaches. Between rotating gallery exhibitions, a shop featuring local artists' work, and a visitor information center, it's a good way to spend a low-key hour before dinner — and a good source of tips on whatever pop-up event might be happening that weekend.
7:00 PM — Dinner at Oceano Kitchen
Oceano Kitchen leans into fresh, ocean-inspired dishes and is one of the better dinner reservations in town if you want something a step up from casual without leaving downtown.
9:00 PM — Downtown nightlife on the 600 and 700 blocks
This stretch of Lake Avenue is where the town's nightlife concentrates — a mix of dive bars, kava lounges, and live music venues like Propaganda, all with a more eclectic, unpolished energy than what you'll find in neighboring Delray or West Palm. If you're visiting between November and February, check ahead for beach bonfire nights at the Casino Building and Beach Complex, a genuinely local tradition worth timing your trip around.
Day 3: Sunday — Slow Morning and Departure
9:00 AM — Brunch downtown
Keep it simple with brunch at one of the walkable downtown spots before you start winding down the weekend. This is a good last chance to grab any last-minute finds from the boutiques along Lake and Lucerne Avenues, most of which open by mid-morning on weekends.
11:00 AM — Old Key Lime House
If you have time before heading out, it's worth the short drive to the Old Key Lime House, reportedly Florida's oldest waterfront restaurant, dating to 1889. The lime-green façade and tiki bar overlooking the Intracoastal make it a memorable last stop, and yes, get the key lime pie.
1:00 PM — Head out
